Hi there, I wonder if you could share what test(s) your child(ren) have had, looking at their likelihood of developing RA? I think you mentioned this on Chockers thread, and I'd be interested to know more. Many thanks, xfx

I think this will be the CCP test, girls. I read that it can predict whether one was likely to develop RA. However, it said it is important to remember that not everyone who tests positive will go on to develop the disease, and that there is nothing that can be done to prevent it's onset. I assume (not sure though) that you woud have to have the tests done privately.

anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody - can I suggest you look it up on the net or, even more to the point, ask NRAS what it does - it may even be on their web site.
I agree that the other thread went seriously off course, and if there is anything you are concerned about, please ask NRAS about it. They may be persuaded to moderate out the things you feel may upset the girls - particularly as the posts are all on a thread meant to be for familes/carers etc and your girls are family.

I dont recall getting this CCP test done when I was told I probably had tendonitis even with a high RF factor - when do they usually do this test?

The anti CCP test is done ONLY when someone first presents with RA type symptoms. It is the definitive test when you are first ill and the rheummies can't decide what you've got. When Lindsay went to see Prof Emery last week, she asked if she could have the test, and he said she could but it wouldn't tell him anything as she had had some form of inflammatory arthritis for almost 20 years.

If I can ask a question? Forgive me for hijacking!! I don't remember being tested for the anti -ccp test. I do remember the RF test it was positive, but not majorly high, just kept climbing each time tested I remember. If you are negative for anti-ccp does that mean you are sero-negative? I just wondered, as I don't remember the test, I assume I was negative for it??? Thanks Deb x

It's if the RF test is negative that makes you sero-negative. Perhaps Debbie, if they diagnosed you from the RF they didn't do the anti-ccp. I don't think I've ever had one but had a definite diagnosis without it.

It wouldn't be any good to you at all, Mel. It's just for people who are very new to inflammatory arthritis.

Hi there! I am so sorry, but today, the 11th January, is the first time that I have noticed this section requesting to know what tests my two eldest children had for R.A! My daughter had a blood test, which I think was to check for Rheumatoid Factor, but I can't be 100% certain as we have since changed G.P's as ours moved away! (I am Positive for Rheumatoid Factor and at the time my daughter and I both had the same G.P, who had first diagnosed me with R.A via bloodtests.) I believe that our G.P would have checked her out to see if she was R.A positive like me. Then last year, my eldest son, 33, began to have some early morning stiffness in two or three of his fingers and some pain which would last for a couple of hours after he got up in the mornings. He then developed a hard nodule on one of his fingers and went to our current G.P Practice and they did some blood tests which included R.A one's, but he tested negative for R.A, as did my daughter. So hopefully, up til now they are not showing signs in their blood of R.A. Sorry again, for taking so long to reply! Best wishes, Fiona

Hi Fiona
I hate to throw a bit of a spanner in the works here. Rheumatoid Arthritis can be either sero positive or sero negative, and the sero negative type doesn't show up in the bloods. This doesn't mean no RA. It mean more tests should be done when people show symptoms. As far as I know, the anti CCP test can be done to predict whether someone may or may not develop RA in the future.
Love Jeanxx
